Common symptoms of ageing skin are the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles (expression lines) and dryness. This is part of the skin's normal lifecycle but it is important to understand the causes of ageing skin and what you can do to prevent and treat it.

These alter the DNA eventually causing cellular demise. Over time the texture of the skin changes. Firmness is compromised and lines appear in the surface.

As our skin ages, it lacks the moisture that it once had. For certain Ayurvedic skin types, and particularly those with a Vata dosha whose skin already leans towards dryness, this can be particularly problematic. People with Vata dosha have to think carefully about ways that they can keep their dosha in balance as they age in order to minimize the signs of premature ageing.

Certain practices might include using moisturisers that are rich in ingredients such as coconut oil or almond oil, and consuming food such as ginger, which can boost skin moisture.
