Ayurvedic Eye Care

According to the well-being philosophy of Ayurveda, the eyes are one of the most important organs in the body. Eye health can also be indicative of other health issues, because eye disease has the same risk factors as heart disease and diabetes. Therefore, looking after your eyes will serve other health goals too. Read on for preventative ways to maintain good eye health throughout your life, from when you go to sleep, to when you wake up in the morning.

Every day

Getting enough sleep is very important so your body can conduct its natural healing processes. Upon waking, gently splash your face at least ten times with cool water. Then rotate the eyes in all directions. Once you have completed this short routine, it’s time to start your day.

Throughout the day, ensure you blink periodically and break your gaze regularly. When we stare at screens, we forget to blink as much as we usually would and this can result in dry eyes. Reminding yourself to blink helps your eyes remain naturally lubricated and protects them from irritants.

Yogic exercises have a good effect on the eyes because yoga reduces stress, anxiety, anger, and grief. These emotional states are detrimental because agitation causes a tensing of the body, including the eyes. Relaxed people tend to blink more, which helps moisten the eyes.

If you don’t perform yoga, try this yogic eye exercise instead:

  • Sit with legs crossed, spine straight and eyes ahead.
  • Maintaining regular breathing, look upwards (moving just the eyes) for two seconds.
  • Then look downwards for two seconds, followed by resting the eyes for two seconds.
  • The eyes should look ahead between each directional movement.
  • Look right for two seconds and then left, then resting for eight seconds.
  • Repeat process three to four times.

Support your eyes by looking after the skin around them. Focus on hydrating and calming with indiraa Age Recharge Serum. Apply each night before going to bed for cellular repair and longevity.

Regularly

Sunlight is a significant factor in eye damage because sunlight creates free radicals. Consuming antioxidants helps cleanse the blood of free radicals. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and lutein are the best choices. These antioxidants are found in spinach, corn, and broccoli. Eating these foods regularly is a step towards good eye health.

When needed

If your eyes are feeling light-sensitive or tired, this can indicate an imbalance in Vata. Try soaking cotton balls with milk or organic rose water. Then place these over closed eyes for 15 minutes while resting. Alternatively, wash your feet with warm water in the evening. Then massage using a Kanda Wand in a small amount of zithila Multi Oil. According to Ayurvedic philosophy, the feet are the roots to the body. Treating them with care can alleviate distress in other areas.
